Intent Statement
The intent of our Mathematics curriculum is to design a curriculum that is accessible to all and will challenge the development of every child's academic ability. We deliver lessons that are fun, challenging, creative, inclusive, and ambitious. We want children to make connections between Mathematical fluency and be competent in answering advanced real-life mathematical problems. We want our children to understand the importance of Mathematics and that it is necessary for our day-to-day life, the importance of it in Science, that it is critical in computing and engineering, and for most forms of future employment. We want our children to be lifelong learners and know that Mathematics will be a part of their life for generations to come.
Our curriculum is designed, in line with NC14 and support by Lancashire Mathematics to ensure that all pupils:
- become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics so that they develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.
- be able to solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of problems with increasing sophistication, including in unfamiliar contexts and to model real-life scenarios.
- reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry and develop and present a justification, argument or proof using mathematical language.
- have an appreciation of number and number operations, which enables mental calculations and written procedures to be performed efficiently, fluently and accurately to be successful in mathematics.
